So what else to blog about then something Taiwanese. YAY!

For those of you that remember Monopoly was having a contest on which world cities should be included in their world edition and many of my fellow Taiwanese were spreading the word of getting Taipei on there.

Well, guess what, Taipei made it. WOO HOO!!!!!!!!

Feel free to buy me a one.

I'm old

Look what my super cool friend Michelle and her hubby animated for me. hehehe

Find my car

It’s Friday and instead of having social life. I’m at home chilling. A little part of me doesn’t mind since work keeps me busy and I really need some down time and in order for me to go out, that requires more work/preparation=stress than I would prefer. BTW is it just me or does going out sometimes seem like such a task?
<DIR><DIR>
1. Research things to do/eat.

2. Find/convince/beg friends to come to OC-98% failure rate

3. Make sure the car has enough fuel

4. Go to the bank to get money

5. If going to LA, call friends that will offer couch to sleep on, then pack so I’m not reversing my underwear (and no I haven’t done that, but I know friends that have, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!) the next day.

6. Shave/pluck/epi-something the hairy areas (yes, I only maintain when I need to, shoot I got no love life…yeah yeah TMI TMI but if you’ve read this blog before I talk about fun girl week here so you should be desensitized by now.)
</DIR></DIR>
But my main reason for me not going out is because I’m working on Saturday. ARRRGH, wasn’t planning to but because I care too much/don’t have enough youth staff, guess which sucker has to do outreach…bleah. Yes, I enjoy waking up Saturday mornings.

So what am I doing to decompress? Checking out my home and work via satellite.

Apparently my car is famous!

My car at home

My car at work. Notice how my car is one of the few cars parked and it’s the daytime. It can only mean one thing. This was me working on a Saturday. Yes, a recurring theme. Jen has no life. Woo hoo!

Design courtesy of old school program Paint.

Saturday, February 16, 2008

TACC-LA 2008 New Year's celebration with old school Taiwanese pop singer Hung Rung Hong 洪榮宏. teehehe

Saturday, February 16, 2008

So I've been slowly loading my CD collection into my ipod and when I'm loading my albums from Taiwan, I usually prefer the words in characters vs pinyin, but I'm starting to notice they default into Simplified form instead of Traditional. WTF. I don't like simplified, what kind of BS is this.

Also got annoyed when a new org I was working with emailed me back translated material in simplified form. HOW THE HECK are folks from Taiwan and most folks who read Chinese, especially in the OC community going to understand this? Cultural competency 101. Of course, I replied back with my thoughts. So far I haven't seen any benefits working with this org. Waste of my time. Of course I have to be diplomatic and blah blah but they need to provide me stuff in atleast Vietnamese. Dude, Japanese is NOT a high priority Asian language. GRRRRR. BTW the "best" thing I heard working at my job is when I had one of my interns make calls to local orgs to see which ones serve the Asian and Pacific Islander community. One lady actually said, "Yes, we speak Asian". Hello, Asian is not a language. *sigh*

Conspiracy theorists, what do you? I remember seeing a petition a few years ago about this topic and look what's happening. Who's with me in the support of keeping Traditional live and well?

Wednesday, January 09, 2008

So I'm not the only fan. Someone posted the LA event I missed.

And the Japanese like the song as well. Tickets are expensive $80 (ouch) but I missed him last time he was in town back in June. I was attending another Taiwanese event at Mission 261 and right across was San Gabriel Civic Auditorium and on their billboard they had posted Taiwanese pop songs, so I was curious since it said Taiwanese and ask the super wonderful Tsuann Kuo was that was all about and she was told me Hong Rong Hong was performing and I nearly died when she told me. I know a reaction most 1st or 1.5 hardly ever see from 2nd gens like me about artists like these. She hooked me up with free tickets for the day show but I was helping out a friend with secret thing and wasn't able to make it back in time and all his evening shows were sold out. I've been wanting to see him perform but since my character reading skills are poor it would be hard to read the ethnic newspapers since those would be the only ones that would publicize him since most 2nd gens aren't interested in that time period.

So who knows I might be throwing undies at him with your Ah Ma and moms this weekend.

It's senior chamber of commerce event so I'm only going to understand at most 40% of the speeches and I'm sure folks are going to wondering "Hey, there is a Pilipina girll here?

I hope he sings 一支小雨傘 hit8 ki sio2 hou7 soann3 aka Little Umbrella song.

Augh I just check San Gabriel Civic Auditorium website and they HAD another Taiwan Pop Music last weekend. I have family and friends that shop here. Please let 99 Ranch know that this kind of response is just not unacceptable.
------------
Dear Friends,

As many of you have heard by now, I was victim of an attempted robbery last
Sunday outside the Ranch 99 supermarket's parking lot in Hacienda Heights. As
many of you also know, I was not the first person who fell victim to this
kind of thing and I have since learned of the identity of at least one more
victim, who was recently robbed (yes, actually robbed) outside the Rowland
Heights Ranch 99 and was badly injured. In that instance, Tawa basically had
the same response and said that it's not responsible for security outside of
the store. Well, perhaps Tawa's attorney needs to do better research. Even if
Tawa has no legal obligation, it has the moral responsibility to ensure that
such things do not continue to happen to its customers. Our incidents have
also been reported by both the English and Chinese news
media, and I'm hoping that more victims would be willing to come
forward to put pressure on Tawa to acknowledge the seriousness of the problem. Please,
I ask that you take a few seconds to click on the link below and sign the
petition, which will be submitted to Tawa to urge the corporation to increase
security at and around all its stores. Please also pass this on to as many
people as you know and to help contribute to a safer community for all of
us and our families. Thank you all in advance!
